Cicero Event: Be OK 屋 企 Gaming

Gaming: for many people, it feels like it’s everywhere! The fact that it is popular with a younger audience immediately locks out many of those who aren’t so familiar with gaming or technology.

How does ‘streaming’ a game work? What is Twitch? How safe is a platform like Discord?

Now is is your chance to have these questions answered!

In this talk, we walk you through the gaming culture – from the games themselves to the gaming industry – its aims, and how we can use it in a way that best supports our children. The application of technologies traditionally seen as entertainment can and should be something that we embrace for the betterment of the overall learning experience.

I have worked as an English teacher in several schools across Hong Kong in an educational career that has spanned over a decade. As a young teacher delivering English language lessons in schools, I was encouraged by the tenacity of students and the passion of the city's teachers. To build on the strong educational legacy that the city boasts, I wanted to reinvigorate the sector with innovative ideas that approached teaching from a gaming perspective. My belief: that students learn if they are taught in a way that is intuitive to them.
